The government has set a target of turning Van Phong Economic Zone in the central coastal Khanh Hoa Province into a luxury tourism and entertainment hub with unique products.

Under adjustments made to a general construction plan (with vision towards 2040) for the economic zone signed by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh on Wednesday, the government hopes Khanh Hoa authorities “would develop high-quality branded tourism and entertainment products that could compete with regional countries.”

The province should prioritize seminars, fairs, exhibitions, tourism services and high-class entertainment with casino and amusement areas.

Tourism service and marine ecotourism will be developed in the south of Hon Gom Peninsula and Hon Lon Island, Diep Son Island tourist area, Tuan Le-Hon Ngang – Da Son tourist area, Dai Lanh Cape and Doc Let Beach.

In 2050, Van Phong will become a “livable area” where people have a high standard of living and lead a happy life, according to the plan.

Established in 2006, Van Phong EZ covers 150,000 hectares, including 70,000 hectares of land and 80,000 hectares of water area in Van Phong Bay of Van Ninh District in Khanh Hoa.

It is one of three major EZs in Vietnam, with the other two being Phu Quoc EZ and Van Don EZ.

Van Phong EZ serves as the economic hub of Khanh Hoa Province, playing a leading role in attracting investment.

Earlier, the Ministry of Planning and Investment suggested foreigners entering the Van Phong economic zone should be given a 60-day visa exemption,

Khanh Hoa, home to the famous beach towns of Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, has set a target of welcoming 40,000 foreign tourists this year.
