When I embark the cruise, everything is the best in Ylang: room, meal, service, recreation and atmosphere. There totally have 10 cabin in the ship, all passengers feel very relax and without hustle in there. Especially, I am solo traveler, but I don’t feel embarrassing. All cruise members treated me very well, it makes my mind warm. I want to make my appreciation to Ylang Cruise manager and dining room waitress: Ms. Anna. The manager introduce tourist stories very interesting, and she also lead all passengers to join recreation activities (such as cycling and kayaking) by herself. Ms. Anna is very lovely and very kind to me. She is good at decorating and drawing image on my dish, it let me feel soothing and stress-relieving. Although many people think they want a “Ha Long Bay” cruise, we were recommended to do Lan Ha Bay instead - which is essentially all the iconic limestone formations of HLB, but cleaner and with way less boats.After researching hundreds of cruise lines (and scouring reddit), we decided to book with Heritage Line. We chose them for the level of accommodation offered, types of activities, Lan Ha Bay offering, and previous guest anecdotes. This proved to be a great decision. THE BOATOur boat was the Ylang. There were 5 couples including us in the 10 room vessel. Even at maximum capacity, there would be plenty of space in the common areas and on the deck. The interior designer did not miss a detail with the ornate colonial style decoration, with parallels to the “Ylang” flower after which the cruise was named. The decor was also functional too, with a rotary phone perfectly restored to be used to call on staff when needed. The only blemish was that the common jacuzzi was not warm, but we did not need this as our room had its own jacuzzi bathtub. In my experience, included cruise cuisine can be afterthought. Not here. The food might have been my favorite part. Each meal was diverse and perfectly cooked, with plenty of options. My partner switched one of her plate choices last-minute and they were able to have a replacement out in less than 5 minutes to not interrupt the flow of the meal. Maybe we are biased by the amazing views of the bay from the dining room while eating - for you to decide.THE CREWAt the cruise terminal, we were greeted by Quan. Beyond the professionalism and level of English one would expect from a cruise of this level, Quan had charisma, a clever sense of humor, knowledge of the area and energy that never lowered throughout the trip. He appeared in a suit to greet, then an hour later was dressed in full bicycle suit to guide us through Cat Ba island, then an hour later in a chef’s hat for the cooking class, etc. It wasn’t just Quan that made the trip so special. The full team was ready to help at any moment, including Phuc (manager), Anh (assistant manager) and the full team of waiters (shoutout to Quynh whom my wife really enjoyed meeting) and crew. They were able to find 2 things we left in the room in the five minutes between “check out” and leaving the boat. There were also several thoughtful details related to the honeymoon. They took care of our every need and did not have to be told anything twice. Truly exceptional service from start to finish, and the highlight of our experience.Thanks to this experience we have realized that it is one thing for people to do their job, and it is a completely different thing for professional, charismatic individuals to go above and beyond and exceed expectations. The crew members were friendly and courteous. Gifts in the form of a straw hat and and a fan awaited us on the bed. That was the beginning of more good times to come. There were too many special moments to mention them all. The food was delicious and thank you for taking my dietary requirements seriously. I was introduced to Tai Chi and was just getting the hang of it when the cruise ended. The excursions were ye opening. There was so much to learn about both the Vietnamese and Cambodian cultures. It was interesting to see how the food we eat daily is made, like noodles, rice cakes, rice wine and coconut products. Modes of transportation: tuk tuk, cyclos, but the ox-cart topped the list. As Voang said, he took us out of our comfort zone. The scarf demonstration was very interesting and thank you for the scarfs we were gifted. This is one of those experiences that you have to experience to understand how it feels. Thank you Heritage Line. The experience was like no other. read less
